Meeting point in Cantiano at Piazza Luceoli at 9.00 am
Transfer to Pian di Balbano below (5 km from Cantiano), to the car park at the information point. The excursion begins in the Tecchie wood which is made up of old tall trunk trees generally oak and beech depending on the altitude and exposure of the slopes. Other species are also present such as the white hornbeam, maples, wild pear and apple trees and so on. The area extends over an internal hanging valley between the two parallel ridges of Serre di Burano, whose litological formations are of an arenaceous nature and completely different therefore to the neighbouring Catria and which mark the beginning of the northern Apennines. On the Serra peak there is also a heath which forms a biotope of considerable interest. The excursion is easy and in the first part allows walkers to especially admire the wood of tall trunk oak trees. At 1.00 excursionists stop to have a packed lunch at Ca Tecchie, a mountain refuge belonging to the province of Pesaro Urbino which has tables, chairs and running water outside. At 2.30 pm excursionists climb into the Serra Alta following an easy path and enter a monumental beech forest. The absence of forestry practices here has given this section of woodland the aspect of a fascinating primeval forest. At 4.00 pm the excursionists start their descent and the walk concludes in the car park of Pian di Balbano at 5.30 pm.
